Title or Location: Sandhill Cranes
While visiting Kentucky a few years back, a large flock of Sandhill Cranes flew over my In-Laws' home, cooing as they went. I had never heard of them but did some research and was mesmerized. Birds are my favorite subject and Sandhill Cranes are beautiful, with pastel glints in their feathers and those gorgeous red heads!

Title or Location: Facing the Light
This portrait was done with assorted pastel pencils and some Cretacolor and Sennelier pastel sticks on PastelMat paper. Size: 16 x 12. My husband (Bruce Fleischer) is a professional photographer and teacher, and took this photo of a coworker many years ago. I recently came across the image and was taken by the light on his face and turban. I wanted the emphasis on those areas, which is why I left part of the drawing unfinished.

The owner told me that she wanted something fun, relaxing, and beautiful to adorn her shed. She pointed out the she especially hated the electric meter. About 1/2 way across painting on the shed, she came out with ice tea and asked if I could also include the Blue Ridge Mountains. So, I made the building end (made a corner) and then added some blue ridge mountains off in the background. Finished product has feelings of Greece with Blue Ridge mountains, making it a true fantasy piece!

I saw a similar piece somewhere and decided to try this style as opposed to charcoal portraiture. Oils on canvas. A very different path to choose. But I'm loving it so far.

Karina Petrova (b. 1983, Ukraine) lives and works in Ballymena, Northern Ireland. She lives surrounded by nature, and in nature she finds the greatest source of inspiration to create art that "evokes positive emotions in people".Her characters are various and unique, embedded into the landscape that flows through and around them. They are the inventions of her imagination, but they are also visions of a world in harmony. For Karina, the act of creation is a healing process which unl

I painted this recently from a photo I took during a Friends Weekend several years ago. We stopped our bicycles on the bridge and snapped a few photos. The icy cold water was a brilliant blue from the mineral content. The Pine River flows into Vallecito Lake near Bayfield and Durango.
